Core
Deep Cleanse & Detox Shampoo
The double cleanse is the centre of a head spa. As one San Francisco head spa owner put it to AP: 'The core part of it is actually getting your hair washed.' Two slow, deliberate shampoos replace the quick wash you get in a salon chair.
What happens
- First shampoo: a purifying or clarifying gel shampoo lifts oil, sebum and product buildup from the scalp and hair.
- The lather is worked in slowly — trade descriptions note repeated lathering can take up to 10 minutes, far longer than a normal salon wash.
- Second shampoo: a slower massage shampoo cleanses the now-exposed scalp and begins the massage portion of the ritual.
- Everything is rinsed thoroughly before steam and treatment steps begin.
Core or add-on?
Core — arguably the core. A head spa without a proper double cleanse, exfoliation and analysis sequence is, by the definitions in our sources, closer to an enhanced shampoo than a head spa ritual.
